DEPARTMENT ORGANIZATION

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office is established by law, under Article 7, Section 4, of the Virginia Constitution. The Sheriff is a constitutional officer and his duties are regulated and defined by statute. The Brunswick Sheriff's Office shall consist of the Sheriff, such ranking and regular deputy sheriffs, and employees as may be specified by the Sheriff. The sheriff's department shall be under the exclusive supervision of the Sheriff. The Sheriff shall be the chief executive of the department, and he shall at times enforce the rules and regulations for the government of the county and state as prescribed by law.

Deputy Sheriffs are charged with enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and all the ordinances of the County of Brunswick. Jurisdiction of the Sheriff's office is limited to the county boundaries, except when another department requests assistance, or when enforcing laws on property owned by the county, but outside its boundaries. The organization of this department will support the effective and efficient accomplishment of departmental functions and responsibilities.
